Warfield, the son of William Warfield and Mary Cabell Breckinridge Warfield, was a graduate of Princeton University. He also attended Oxford University and received a degree from Columbia Law School in 1885. Warfield practiced law for three years before becoming the president of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1888. Warfield accepted the presidency of Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, in 1891. He also held a professorship of political science at Lafayette. From the descri...
